mmmk so post.
lots of riding as of late, well not just riding but going to the gym as well. Some time on the stationary bike and lifting and such. It seems to be working pretty well for me.
I got out for like 2 hours after school yesterday and managed to flat twice which was kind of a bummer, this makes 4 flats on the road and 3 flats on the cross bike for 2007. In 2006 I had a much different year 3 flats total, one shitting around riding in the glass covered rain gutter and two where I walked out to bike in the morning and my back tire was flat. Which brings me to my next point, i have never flatted a front tire. Moral of the story, free continental gatorskins are the best tires around. Enough flat talk.
12 or so hours on the bike since monday which I'm pretty pumped on, looking to to about an hour and a half on the trainer today, then get out on the road tomorrow. If so I will post some pics.

This is pretty much what I eat now. In fact im actually eating it right now, as I type. the yogurt tastes good and has calcium. I really dont drink milk because I like water so much, so this works well for calcium. The granola is a great substitute for chocolate chips and even has protein. Finally the fish oil pills are good for everything and apparently speed up you metabolism, excellent when taken with daily multivitamins. Enough boring nutrition talk. Here comes the excitement.

Out on a ride today, bout an hour in and coming out of the swamp when a strange creaky poppy sound starts coming from my BB. So I just figure that it the loose ball bearing 80s Bottom Bracket and do what any other sensible rider would do... turned up my iPod. I got away without fixing it for another 10 minutes. Then I began to accelerate away from a stop sign when the creaky poppy noise gets really lound then stops. At the same time my rear wheel stopped moving because genious like to ride fixed gear. Chainring bolts popped out even tough they were loctited in place and tiiiiiiight, and the only 42T chainring I had folded after splitting right down the center. toast.
Then I called for a ride/spent some time standing in front of shop-rite for a bit.
More carnage pics.

I have a new phone too. Same number.

Forgot how fun riding the road is. Ive gotten all mixed up riding the cross bike, running and going to the gym that I completely forgot how fun the road can be. Did about an hour and a half, rode an abbreviated swamp loop. I had my first ride on the road with the hrm to so i followed that alittle, but I'm really not to big a fan of computers. I think I might like training with the hrm though it tells you avg hr, max hr, calories, %fat all good stuff. Looking forward to doing this base thing. ha.

The Angles.

My favorite road of the swamp loop.
In other news I watched some weird shite on TLC, the show is called extreme pregnancies. Pretty messed up but completely recommended. Once that got to my head I watched bull riding on NBC and this guy had his shin compound fractured. and the bone was like sticking out. the bull stepped right on the back of his leg as he was crawling on the groud. it was redic.

Twas wintercross #2

I got fourth place. The race was super fun the course was muddy, but not too muddy. Nice mix of sandy gravel, pavement, slick grass and deep mud. Race started out with me taking third in the wholeshot, that gave me nice position going into the staight that had the deep mud. there was a little crash in the slick turn after the mud section. The pavement after that I took some ground and then sat in second. The guy I was with got a little break, but I didnt chase it, I figured it was much to early. Not one person from my group of three decided to chase. I spent the next lap sitting in and wheezing (I think im getting sick...) Then some dude came up from the back on lap two and toasted everyone, caught up to the guy who prolly had 20 seconds on us. The setup was two up and then a group of four with the rest of the field a safe distance behind. last lap comes around and one of the guys breaks away in the deep grass. I cant catch him, I decide to sit with the group of 3 remaining and win the sprint with my group for 4th place by about 10m. Some family showed up, very nice of them.

Overall good time. Stopped at some deli on the way home and scored a itailian sub.

My heart rate monitor came in yesterday its pretty sweet. but I think im getting sick because it was pegged between 167-187 the whole race... da da da.

orange juice and vitamins

fixed gear ride tomorrow becuase my legs are feeling that good, and I havent even started base training that everyone speaks of.

pictures....

OHH! and scott, I used your wheel, promise ill pay you sooon hahahah

I cleaned my bicycle today, at the bicycle shop.

My bike was really muddy today so i took it out to the shop and cleaned it, which worked out well becuase I had to drop off college forms with my employer. felt the need to use my camera whilst I was there, here is the result one shiny and clean bicycle.

Single ring 39-14 setup used to crush men 20 years my senior

waiting on carbon spacers.

In other news my computer monitor exploded yesterday and would only display one color...black.

I went over the the library to get some work done since my computer was out of service and brought my laptop, only to realize they have free wireless! and its quiet. So im going to start blogging from there because I can actually get schoolwork dont there too.

Doing a project on NORML the nation organization for refromation of marijuana laws which is kind of interesting. decriminalization might be the way, but then the government would get into it making more mess for no good reason.

back to college essays and gov. homework.

Heres the report of the first wintercross race from Dan Strika

Race Report from Winter Cross I
by Dan Strika

The first day of 2007 and me and seven other guys (everyone looked sober) lined up for the B/C race at Skylands Park in Augusta.
The course was substantially different that the last time that we raced there. This time there were twists and turns in the gravel parking lot, up and down on the K2 hill, into the stadium on the gravel, one set of stairs, through a tunnel into the stadium (look out for the tractor). The hill was muddy and there were plenty of large puddles all over the course. All things considered it was a pretty fast course.Bob Carey wished us a happy new year and then said "Start!" and off we went. I got the bike moving and slammed it into the big ring . A young guy wearing a Navigators outfit took off with a powerful sprint and gapped the rest of us. I sprinted as fast as I could and caught up to him on one off the grassy sections. As I was riding behind him mud was spraying from his rear wheel into my face. There was a substantial gap that opened up between the two of us and the rest of the field. As the lap progressed we worked together and the gap got bigger and bigger. We agreed to work together and put the rest of the guys as far back as possible. By the end of the third lap of a five lap race we had over a minute gap on the rest of the field. The young guy had a real strong sprint and he stayed with me on the three running sections. Over the next lap we tested each other but I couldn't find a way to drop him and he couldn't get rid of me either. I got the impression that he was biding his time and wanted to wait for the sprint to knock me off. On the last lap I went to the front and got a bit of a gap on him on the asphalt but as soon as the technical sections came up he closed the gap. I didn't want to sprint it out with him as he demonstrated a few times that he could go real hard and fast in a straight line. We got to the K2 hill and I tried to outrun him but he closed it down again. I said to myself "Come on I can win this (never won a race before)" With about 400 meters to go we came into the tunnel in the stadium and then we exited the stadium. Only about 150 meters to go. I was in the lead and he was about 20 feet behind me. I slammed it into the big ring, let out a "Arghhhhhh" and started to sprint as hard as I could. The kid had rocket fuel in his legs and with about 60 meters to go he caught me and passed me with authority. With about 20 to go I closed down the gap but he crossed the line first by about a bike length. Later on in the parking lot as we exchanged greetings and congratulations I got a good look at him. I think he's pushing 18 years old... I just turned 46! Youth triumphed over experience. Good race, it was interesting being at the front of the field (first time for me). A little disappointed that I couldn't finish the guy off on the last lap but that's bike racing. I'll be back again next week.

this is gonna be a big post...

pretty happy kid huh?

today's race was super fun. Started off 8 guys which is nice in the B/C field. the start went and i took the wholeshot with another guy right behind me. Immediately pushed and told the other guy that i wanted a gap within the first two laps just to be sure. The third lap rolled around and my dad told me the lead was up over a minute. so i was pretty physched. so the setup was me and one other guy and then a group of three guys chasing for the first 3 laps. First and second would come out of my group with a sprint and 3rd from the other group. after i led the first 2 laps and made the gap i sat in off the back of the guy i was with, resting and holding out for the sprint. Sprint came and i beat second place by about 4 bike lengths. it felt good. so i won a DVD of U23 Cross worlds but its in dutch. pictures...
